The Book of Sand

Thought I would go ahead and release this recently completed Bitsy retelling of the 1975 short story by Jorge Luis Borges. The piece invites you to read excerpts from the tale as you navigate passages from the mysterious tome it depicts.

This was another exercise in generative Bitsy works, following on from my efforts with Haiku Garden, A City is Not a Computer, After Life, and, indeed, The Garden of Forking Paths. Each session of the game is generated anew on loading, so the exact paths you follow, the passages you see, and the unfamiliar writing they are composed of, will be unique each time. There "is" an underlying structure to the text, but it is left as an exercise for the reader to interpret as best speaks to them. On a practical note, this piece employs spatial logics and grammars as a stand-in for infinite pages of infinite text.
