August was a bit of a weird month--it felt super long but I also decided to take a break in between weeks to try and enjoy the last few weeks of summer.
That being said, I was able to meet the milestone that I set, which was to finish a bunch of UI portraits for Barrett's route. These won't have any alts or expressions, so they're more like portrait impressions rather than something more interactive. Here are all the UI portraits together!
The process of designing unique NPCs was quite fun, and definitely challenging--I really wanted to make each NPC truly unique and have their outward appearance contribute to the storytelling as well (what they're holding, what clothes they're wearing, etc) and of course by exploring intersections of campesino identity (which is what is a lot of the base for Barrett's route) such as race, disability, gender, etc.
The next art milestone will be to create a few more UI portraits for Sepsis' route, as well as backdrops for Barrett's route. Narrative system is still TBD but will check in next month on how that's going.
