This Ancient Artifact of Hindbodes Which He Brings Forth

Welcome to FACE, as it exists in late 2023.

As you can probably tell, this game is not even close to finished. It is, however, past a major hurdle. You may also notice the debug graphics on the ground. Don't worry about those.

Those debug graphics actually had everything to do with the development hurdle that this game is past. But anyway...

FACE goes way back. I actually started developing it at the very beginning of 2018, probably around 1 PM. Back then, I was what I personally called a "Weak Developer" at the time. Don't worry, I didn't feel insulted or hurt when I used that to describe myself. Because I was so new to game development and had still yet a lot more unfinished self-teaching, I hadn't comprehended what it takes to  build an entity system. I hadn't started Startup Tophat. I hadn't even started Bunny Horrors or a more private simulation called "Tiles Test Extreme". I wasn't up to the challenge as much as I thought I might be, back when 2018 was a new time on Earth.

I resurrected FACE last year. First, I cannibalized some copied code from my own completed 2020 game, Green Dude.

After a lot of testing and upgrading in that division - which I always refer to as Green Face - I got a good primary loop basis running. Then I spent several weeks working on a more true-to-vision environment for the face to be in, and then I got where we are today. The first two screenshots of this post are using a smoothed unfinished version of the very same original 2018 FACE map. Although those houses from the screenshots up there are not supposed to be in it. I will be constructing different buildings.

Will this be my next game? I don't know. Every time I try to predict something like that it gets proven wrong in a few months. Even though I want to complete FACE quite soon right now and post it for money on Rodent Predator, I know that it's going to take months to finish, and I've got other projects that I'm paying attention to right now. One of the things I'm starting this year is a serious consideration towards releasing random small mobile games. Everybody who knows me IRL and suggests work ideas on my games has been wanting me to do that for a long time now, and after talking to my friend Dion about Startup Tophat I finally committed. But there's a strong chance that I'll get addicted to FACE development in much the same way that I got addicted to Bridge of Fate development in 2020, and make it the next non-mobile game I put out. And at that point, I'll probably also... port it to mobile...

Here's another earlier-in-development screenshot for the dopamine deficient.

It also has full-screen mode.
