My first platformer is out!

Hi!

This is my first post here, and I'm excited (and a little worried) to share my first 2D game with you! It's a simple 2D platformer with 10 levels to beat. I've worked on it for the last 4 months for about 15-30 minutes a day with some breaks. My goal was to get familiar with the 2D environment and to create a complete project. I've treated it as an exercise for finishing things, as it's hard for me to make a project from start to end. Of course, I had a lot of other ideas on the way, but I kept on and didn't stop. I think the hardest thing about this one was to stay on it and don't drop it. Yeah, it was boring as hell at some points. I've learned some things too, so I guess it was worth it!

I would say some things myself from the past before creating this project:

  • Don't create features that you're not sure you're going to use - I've worked on a camera target switching for one or two days, but in the end, I didn't use it even once.
  • Don't rush the level design. Plan it, create scatches, experiment, and TEST - some levels I had to redesign completely, as they had no sense. I think it's still visible in the current release.
  • Make more editor tools like total level score count and max jump height visuals - those would make my work much easier.
  • Think about the game systems, and make something interesting - now I can think of many, many systems I could implement. They would make the game far more interesting. I'll definitely do it in the next project.
  • Be regular when you can - this one I think I've accomplished pretty well. There were maybe 3-6 days when I wasn't working on the game. I would even say, that it's the main reason I've finished this one.

Finally, here it is. The finished game. It's definitely not perfect, but it's there, it's working and it's playable. I have a lot of ideas on how I could improve it, but I don't think I'll do that. Unless it'll surprise me and people would actually play it and enjoy it.

Check it out!
