We are super excited to be publishing "Kaznath's Hack of Sword and Backpack"!
Sword & Backpack is a rules lite rpg that was developed by Rothbard & Gazpus back in 2010/2012. It had a small following at the time and all-in-all was underappreciated for how awesome it really was. Its almanac system is straightforward, easy to follow, and you can get started in less than five minutes - with ease one can create and run a one shot, yet it maintains equal heft to carry a years long campaign. It uses one d20 and a moleskin notebook, and that is pretty much it. It is DIY, accessible, and pretty much all things Punk while still being all things "Dungeon". The system allows players to be creative and inventive, rather than being restricted by authoritarian systems of play, and helps flesh out characters who are characters, not stat blocks.
Kaznath is a Sword & Backpack DM/storyteller and has a goblin blog over on Tumblr reflecting on Sword & Backpack's philosophy of play. Within the new trifold, Kaznath helps lay out a starter guide for those dipping their toes into Sword & Backpack for the first time, with some added "starter rules" to get everyone comfortable. It is characteristically goblin in writing, but we off set that with some goofy art. We hope you enjoy it!
