Chi Hang So - Lead Networking Developer for Thwip. 5/5/2023
Coming into month two of our capstone project, nothing was looking great. We were very far from where we wanted to end the month with, bugs in our game, didn't have basic functionality of our player, and systems breaking. My research had a break because I was focused on solving these issues which slowed down our progress immensely with multiplayer. We needed a big team talk as to why certain functionality was not met and we need to start working more diligently moving forward.
At the start of our second month, a decision was made and we added 3 more people to our group, making it a total of 6 people for Thwip development. This event was a bit unexpected adding new members to our team, but it will definitely help us with how behind we got. I then decided it was time to have a more organized way of working with our new members, and created new Jira boards, tasks, and assignments for everyone. I also drew out our expectations coming into the month and made sure we will be on track for the month, this is in order to catch up and be able to show something presentable to show. After these changes were made I could finally go back and put more time into learning Epic Online Services(EOS) and Unreal Engine 5 Multiplayer systems.
Everything has been going smoothly, we have working parts of the project as of today Friday 5th. On the networking side I have been able to create a project and have been able to test out shooting in multiplayer. In time I would be able to move this over to our main project with all types of functionality through the server but this is all just baby steps. Thank you for taking the time to read my blog post, and I hope to see you reading this next week with our project.
