Well hey, been a while.
Haven’t posted anything on here in a few months, so I wanted to finally just make a small update on things.
First off, development on Apocalite is still going. I took a break from developing the game for a bit to work on making ideas for the prologue and the full game. But I’m back working on it now, so that’s cool I guess.
So what’s new? Well, right now, not too much. I’m still working on refining gameplay elements and making a good map before diving into the real meat and bones of the prologue. So I guess I don’t have much to show you yet, but I’ll talk about some things to expect for the game.
In the prologue, you’ll get some background story with some different characters, but it’s main focus is introducing gameplay elements of chapter 1 of the full game (The game will be split into 3 chapters, all in different areas with different mechanics). Chapter 1 will take place in the village you saw in the teaser. This will probably be the most complex chapter mechanically to make, as it’ll probably have the most different mechanics, like the day/night cycle, radiation, raids, etc. I’ll get into these mechanics later.
The prologue will introduce you to characters that aren’t mainly seen in the full game - the protagonist of the prologue is a different character than the protagonist in the full game. You’ll go through one day and two nights, with the first night being longer as it’s the intro to the prologue. It’ll be around 25-30 minutes most likely.
The day/night cycle in the full game will be probably like this: 10 minutes for the day, 5 for the night. And every 5 nights, there will be a raid - so you will have to be prepared, and you’ll have to get enough resources to build up your house and block it off, and get enough weapons to survive the raid. During the day, if you go outside and stay outside for too long, you will begin to take radiation damage, so getting proper clothing to defend against it and finding shelter every 2 minutes or so will be helpful. There will be some mutants outside during the day, but not as much, but radiation may be your biggest enemy. At night, the radiation won’t be a problem, but there will be WAYYYY more mutants out there.
Every 2 days, a little shed outside your house will open, where a Doctor lives, who is basically your upgrade station. You can get some buffs and special abilities, for some resources. An example would be a speed buff or something for 2 mags of ammo, or something like that. The doctor will actually use these resources at night, so buying from him will benefit you and him, because if he doesn’t get the resources he needs (he can’t go outside because he has some medical condition where the radiation is much more lethal to him, so he relies on you), he will actually die, and he can be very helpful in the story (he’s not exactly essential - but he helps you get to chapter 2. Without him, getting there is more difficult). You won’t see him in the prologue though.
There’s a lot of other things, but I’d rather not explain them yet.
