Bases

It's Wednesday,

That means, it's time to talk about what makes a base a home for your characters in Redshift.

What is a base?

It can be a building or a spaceship where your characters spend their down time. It could be a house in the middle of the suburbs, an apartment in a city, a mansion in the middle of nowhere, or if you're rich enough, a skyscraper in a thriving downtown.

All bases only have so much space, but they come with some basic Mods already included, usually bedrooms and the like. Larger bases come with garages or more.

However, you're not stuck with your standard house. You also get a set amount of "Free Space."

This "Free Space" will allow you to customize the building however you see fit. Firing ranges, gyms, garages, mechanic's shops. Whatever you want in the base, you can have it built.

Each part of a base has a benefit to it.

A gym makes it easier to raise your physical stats if you use it every day. A firing range allows you to test your gun out, and improve your skill with them.

A Mechanic's shop provides a bonus to repair rolls.

So, not only do your bases begin to take shape how you want, they also can help you improve or relax.

Not all sections have a bonus, but some simply add flavor or allow your characters to relax. A living room, for example is just for your characters to enjoy themselves.

The Warehouse base also comes with Cargo Space, which can be modified into Free Space, or used to store your cargo.

"Well, that's great, how much does it cost?"

That depends on the size of the base, but it's always a flat amount. I didn't want players to have YET ANOTHER thing to track, so it's just a flat one-time cost, and then you have the base forever. Or until you die.

And as mentioned earlier, your space ship can also be a base, so long as it's medium size or bigger. Small ships just don't have the space necessary for long-term habitation.

However, any medium sized ship can easily be a base. They also have Free Space and can be modified to live in with relative ease.

So, go forth, Mercs. Show that you not only can do a job in style, but also live in style.
