Whoops! Over scoped!
Yep, I've been quiet on the museum for a bit. How come? Well...I had a lot of grand ideas. Make an art museum. Have a science museum attachment. Use it it teach kids. So many ideas! Yet I'm only one person, and soon those ideas became overwhelming. Which led to some burn out.
But due to some inspiration courtesy of art history related twitter threads, it's back to working on it! But first, cutting down the scope.
Technically this doesn't mean much for what's visible regarding the project right now. What's on itch will still be there until I have some additional content/fixes.
However, it does mean I'm nixing the science museum bit for now. Perhaps in the future when I know more about coding/blueprints.
Instead, I'm going to focus on the teaching art and art history aspects, with a target audience of secular homeschool parents, though I hope museum afficiados and teachers will get some use out of it too.
The curriculum I've begun building is focused on how art and history are intertwined, with a goal of improving critical thinking skills. The curriculum itself has three main age groups, as the topics at hand will likely be taught different based on age. This curriculum is in itself an optional supplement, and I make no claims towards being an educator, but I hope it can be of use to educators who can at the very least use it as a jumping off point.
The museum design itself will be expanded, with the current main room still showing a variety of art, but more art movements will be shown. As it stands now I'd like to run over Dada, Impressionism, Baroque, and Renaissance, as well as art movements from Non-European regions that are often missed and/or considered second fiddle to European art movements.
For those who get curious about what will be worked on:
In Unreal Tasks | In 3D program Tasks | Other Types of tasks |
Create Lamp Model | Research Dada
Debug Image Compression | Frames | Find Dada images |
E to Interact | Misc Art Museum stuff | Research Art movements in other regions |
Pop UI with Artist/artwork/subject Info | Find images from those art movements
Improved tutorial HUD | Finish curriculum
Add areas for other art movements | Make Merch. |
These are just what I can think of right now, with no specific timeline. There's quite a bit of research and digging that needs to be done along with UI work.
The main goal of the Digital Museum of Varietas et Resciscendi is showcasing a variety of works, in order to foster learning. I hope to create a Museum that shows works by a diverse array of people, from multiple cultures, to not only educate, but inspire. I hope to dive deeper into art and art history, to create a tool anyone has access to.
The Digital Museum will remain free for all, even once it leaves its current Alpha. Of course I welcome any donations when downloading the museum! It helps fund programs I use, and I won't lie, is a bit of a motivator. Additionally, I welcome tips via ko-fi,where you can even select a membership to donate monthly! In the future I hope to create merch that'll aid in funding, as well as potentially obtaining funding from other sources.
Thank you for reading, and I hope you have a great day!
