Work for Just Us Over the Water proceeds a-pace! I'm enjoying being able to take my time for this one.
Over Water (the nickname I'm giving this game because JUOtW is weird looking acronym) is an investigative game where you play as archaeologists trying to unearth the mysteries within this train that was found in the much. You are living in the far, far future, where society has come to live above the Flood. Sometimes, when the water recedes, we find things about the past that could keep us awake at night.
I'm employing a few interesting mechanics this time around. Dice resolution is a match-dice resolution, where you have to match the dice you roll, instead of the usual thing of aiming for a result. Additionally, there will be a communal dice pool. Everyone starts with two dice and may, at any time, take from the communal dice pool to improve their chances of making a successful roll. The catch here is that taking from the pool may deplete it permanently unless otherwise stated.
I am curious to see if people will like the way these two subsystems work together. I am also going to weave in the ability for players to replenish the dice pool into their character archetypes.
The communal dice pool mechanic is something I've long wanted to try out, but I hadn't developed a game concept yet that seemed to match it, until now.
