Very nice work! I loved the atmosphere and the art style. Would love to see another game in the next jam :)
Stay funky,

Cool game. The tumbnail got me to click it and I enjoyed it. Next time make the jumping better.

Developer

Nice, glad the thumbnail did its job! How would you suggest improving the jumps?

Submitted

idk. maybe it was heavy?

Submitted(+1)

great game! I really liked your interpretation of the theme!

Wow great entry! The only thing I did not love was the feeling of the player attack. Idk it just felt a little weak. It would be cool if it was a little more animated or somehow felt more impactful. It definitely got the job done though and considering the time restrictions and solid the amount of content in the game I don't think it was a major issue. Had fun the entire time I was playing. As others mentioned great level design having areas that are accessible early on, but mess you up if you go there. Makes it so fun to come back later when you are stronger.

so glad you enjoyed the game! Due the the player having multiple sprites layered on top of it (the teeth, fins, etc), it made it so adding new animations was pretty time consuming. So we settled with a simple attack animation since it was easy. But it is definitely something we could juice up if we come back to this and have less of a time crunch!

Wow...! Beautiful visuals and music and a really unique and fun concept. This is incredible. There's a bit of a sound bug with the music/footsteps when you die, but great job!

sorry could not find anything wrong. Everything just fit together perfectly. Good length for a jam. Nice progress of the power ups. Clean graphics can make out wat everything is. Nice powerup surprise, I was thinking there were some blind jumps but falling and dying was a nice touch.

Developer (1 edit)

Really glad you enjoyed it as much as you did! Thanks for playing

WOW! This game is amazing! I think this has potential to become a full steam or even console game! If you plan to do that I would be honoured if I could help.

Its an actually great game, i love the graphics and music, there is a sound bug where if you die and you keep on moving you can still hear the footsteps, great game overall !

Developer

Yep I was kind of lazy and didnt destroy the player after death or disable it or something.. If we do a post jam version I can change it

Really liked the game, the idea and the execution. This was extremely well done for a 3 day jam. My only issue is that attacking was slightly buggy, and didn't always work, and the boss foght was a little slow. Still a very impressive game!

Developer

Thank you for playing the game. maybe you could tell me what issues you had with attacking ?

Submitted

It might have been my laptop or an intentional game design, but sometimes when I clicked further away from my player, it didn't attack. Also some of the enemies attacks didn't connect when it looked like they should have done. However, I want to stress this is nitpicking and  it was a great game overall.

I'm just so impressed that you could do this for the duration of the jam. The game is so polished and the art style reminds me of an old game called heart of darkness. I love how the theme is being used here.

Great job!

Developer

Oh yes the creatures in that game look kinda similar. I have heard the name of the game before but I had to look it up. Looks interesting tho.

I love the shadowy art style, It really instills a spooky mood onto the player. Everything about this game oozes polish and game feel. I am just impressed you made this in the jam time. I hope you have time to check out my game too.

Developer

thank you for the praise.

I left a comment on your game :)

great job, art was great, very fun idea.

Well done!

Developer

I'm glad you enjoyed it

Love the art! But jumping was a little weird

Developer

What was weird about jumping ?

Submitted

Maybe it was that I was able to jump quite high but at the same time the distance that I traveled horizontally was very small. But maybe it's just me?

Developer(+1)

I can look into it in the case that we make a post jam version and fiddle a bit with the parameters. Thank you for the feedback :)

This is so cool and the art is so distinct and awesome. I loved the evolving mechanic, and the animation for each form coupled with the SFXes was great! great work

Developer(+1)

thank you :)

Great game, really good work. But it does feel a little longer than should. You walk for a long time across a relatively empty world in search of DNA, you suffocate for a long time, you die for a long time from the boss, you kill the boss for a long time. There is not enough action. But nevertheless, the game is very high quality, the visual style is very good, the animations and atmosphere are top notch and overall I enjoyed it.

Developer

Thank you, I appreciate the feedback! You're right about the wait time, if we come back to this one of the first things on the list is to tighten up the experience and remove some of the waiting

Submitted(+1)

Really good entry. Great art, great music. Well designed world.

Submitted (1 edit)

This is something original! Very strong theme and fits the topic of the jam in an elegant way. I like the idea of "evolution" beeing explored. Wery well done!

Submitted

I think this is a fantastic entry

Everything was very well polished and I like the concept of the creature having to explore and die in order to evolve. The map is a bit too large and empty an I think jumping felt a bit awkward at points. Also I had some trouble with the controls, switching from jumping with spacebar to clicking left mouse was a bit tricky

but overall I think its great game and I liked the variation with the boss monsters moves

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the feedback! I've definitely learned in that game jam that I need to work on my background art, I usually only focus on character stuff and don't know how to fill large spaces.

Also good point about the awkward controls, we play it with WASD and added the arrow keys in as an afterthought, so I can see how what you mentioned could be awkward

Thanks for playing

It was great to see the monster evolve.

The map was probably a bit too big, I went left at first and was wandering around for a while without any sense of purpose. There were a few audio issues when the game restarted too.

I really like the idea and the boss fight was really cool.

Developer(+1)

yes background art is definitelt a weak point I need to work on, I feel like that would've helped with the aimlessness.

But thanks for playing and giving feedback!
