  • An well-designed farming simulator with a morbid twist. The game strikes a crafty balance between the costs of the harvest, the slowly decaying body and the turn limits. I found this shaped into a game that was genuinely challenging but also quite addictive. That I was farming blood from a dying body added to the charm! Great experience.

Was completely absorbed into playing this for an hour, super addictive and fun with great sequences, choices, and a simple set of rules.

Thanks for giving it a shot!

Very fun game and I love the fact that it's a PICO-8 game. It's super well stylized and I like the risk-reward ratio for the plantings without the game feeling too unbalanced. Definitely very well playtested. Great job!

Submitted(+1)

Wonderful and very unique game! Played it while screensharing to my friends in vc, and got so invested that I actually forgot to talk to them. I also didn't expect the twist, it's a great example of how a cool story can be told without many words

Developer(+1)

Thanks for trying it! Awesome it managed to capture you in that way! :D

Really unique one) Enjoyed playing!) Play also my game, its fun halloween chasing)

Hi. Thank you for playing the game! However, it's a bit rude to order someone to play your game. It seems like you have been doing that to not only me, but other peoples game as well. Again, leaving a short comment and asking someone to play your game is kind of rude. People will play your game if they want to. There are already several threads at the community page where people are playing each others games, I would recommend you go there if you want more to play your game.

Submitted

oh) I didnt want to be rude) just having fun)

The game was fun and I really like the art style, I play on a 60% keyboard so the controls were way harder for me, I also liked the sound design, the game is very visually pleasing.

Developer

Thank you for trying it out! What made it more difficult to play with a 60% keyboard? It seems to me like the layout would be essentially the same (noone would use numpad anyways, and you only use x, c and the arrows anyways).

Submitted(+1)

The keyboard I am using requires me to hold Fn key to use arrows, but holding the Fn key turns the normal alphabet keys to multimedia keys like pause, play etc. So I had to hold the Fn keys to use arrows and un-hold it to use C and X.

Developer

Oh that's a pain. You can actually remap the controls if you just press p while in game. I'll update the itch page with the info.

Submitted(+1)

Oh alright, I will give it another try then, Thank you.

Developer(+1)

No problem, thanks for giving me a headsup! If there are any more problems, tell me and I'll do what I can to fix them :D

Hi! I wrote a post mortem for the game, reflecting a bit about stuff like cutting things from an idea, prioritizing what to do and in general staying sane. Thought it might interest you since you played the game. If it does, it's avaliable on the games page :3

Hey Isabelle!

I HAVE FED THE KIND! This was honestly one of the coolest games I have played so far. I have never played a game made in pico 8 and I was blown away. I knew you could do some pretty cool stuff in it, but had never really experienced anything made with it.

A couple notes after playing:

I NEED MORE OF THIS GAME! Honestly I got nothing to say. Everything was super straightforward, I understood how things worked from the get-go with the tutorial, and I was able to finish the game.

  • Maybe my only note would be a slightly different control scheme? Honestly once I got used to it though it didnt bother me at all.

What I liked:

ALL OF IT! Honestly, this game really like stimulated a part of my brain that I didn't know I needed to be stimulated.

  • The sort of puzzle aspect of trying to min-max your blood output was fantastic
  • The music and sound effects were fantastic
  • The graphics/art were perfect (I honestly didn't realize the layout of the garden was my body until the very end hahaha I felt kind of dumb not realizing that sooner)
  • The mechanics were simple and straightforward but it definitely made it so you had to think a little and didn't just spam stuff onto the ground.
Developer

Whoa thank you for the kind words!

You can actually change the controls, just press P! Didn't really think about advertising that it existed, but you are actually able to remap buttons.

Super happy to hear the game managed to scratch that management itch! You sound like you would enjoy factory or similar games a lot. Might be worth checking out? Anyhows, thanks for trying the game!

Submitted(+1)

Oh cool! Well I will definitely check out your other games and drop you a follow because I had a blast with this game. Really great job again on your submission :D

Developer

Thank you so much! I'll do my best to keep them coming :3

Oh and if you like what I do, I highly recommend checking out abhimonk, he creates some really really cool stuff. Quite a few are in pico8 and I think he's made a strategy / management game or two. He's one of my biggest inspirations!

A very well done tutorial, didn't manage to break it! :P Though it seems you can prep a little bit before the creature is revealed but I guess it's intended.
The game mechanics and the gameplay are well explained and easy to understand.

One thing to improve the game: Have an icon other than "O" displayed when the game is started so the player understands which key it actually is because I had to go in the itch page to figure out the controls and not everyone has this patience and can quit the game with all its potential.

Other than this small things it seems you have good game design foundations, I truly enjoyed the game!

Developer(+1)

Yea prepping before the end of the tutorial was a thing I did notice was possible. I did a guess that most players would just do as instructed and not use the moment, but you can absolutely! I was on edge about removing it, it would be very odd for the player if what they had made just disappeared, so I prioritized immersion. So it's not really intended, but it was definitely something I consciously let slip. I think you are one of the few to notice, I'm kind of impressed!

Explaining buttons is definitely a thing, if I'd slapped on a start menu I would have put it in there. That does get a bit funky though, as you can play pico8 games on mobile (it's super cute, try it!), and it would be just a lil odd for those players. Anyways that's probably like one person, I'm just making up excuses at this point. Prioritized other stuff didn't do it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Thank you so much for trying the game, appreciate it very much!

I loved it ! It's amazing how you managed to make such a great game on your own ! It was really spooky while fun to play. It really is the kind of game that manage to both be good on their own and which you could picture as a longer/bigger game !

Developer(+1)

Thanks you so much for trying the game! Pico8 saved my ass, without it I wouldn't had a chance to pull it off. What usually would take me half an hour I can do in a minute or two in pico8, especially when it comes to visuals and audio. That together with agressively keeping scope down. Again, thanks for trying!

I am so blown away by this style, rather simple but it got me hooked! Great job!

Developer

Happy to hear! I'm very much a fan of easy to understand gamemechanics that become complex from their interactions with each other. Check out "emergence", really interesting concept. Thanks a ton for playing!

i love this! i didnt realize i was planting on my literal body so i got jumpscared at the end :'')) this is awesome, i love the color palette and the  animation on the eyes

Developer(+1)

Multiple persons who didn't notice that it was a body, should have put a lil more time into make it more. bodylike?

Glad that you liked the eye animation! It's something I feel really happy with but also a bit silly for implementing. Took wayyy too many hours to write a noise function that I was happy with.

Thank you so much for playing the game, really appreciated getting to play yours as well :D

Absolutely, as I said the gameplay loop is really satisfying to me, it'd be fun to play more of it!

nice! really loved that. it was cute, spooky, and those eyes genuinely creeped me out. the mechanics are simple, elegant, and dont take much to get your head around but I was still finding myself having to think and plan to get the outcome I wanted. good job!

Developer

YES, that is exactly what I was trying to go for with the mechanics. Easy to get into, but becomes complex as you really start to think about it. Thanks for giving my game a shot!

Always surprised by how good Pico games can be!

It was a fun and creepy experience, good job.

Developer

Pico8 can be ridiculously powerful when you get to know it, since you can just slam pretty much anything into it. Sprites and audio is super fast to make, and it's overall very fun to work with! So definitely recommend to try it sometime.

Thanks for playing!
