Very cute looking game with some nice music to boot. Difficulty is a bit easy but that’s probably due to having attack and what’s essentially a shield on the same move. Kinda expected to die when that final boss obscured vision, but dude was more stationary than I expected (I think having him move more frequently in the dark would make him way harder).

Thanks! The boss used to  be much quicker but after seeing some friends die 3 times in a row I got scared  (lol) and decided to nerf it to make sure most people were able to beat it.

I feel like the ability to break projectiles with the sword was a bit strong. Mostly because many bosses relly on projectiles for so many attacks. Had I had more time I would add more attacks that come from different sides and more wave attacks since they cant be dodged as easily.

Great art style and pretty solid bosses. The cold / warmth between fights and hub really sells a vibe. Liked the film effect too.

I liked this one a lot for the little story going on, but felt like the whole game could have been more hard. In general the theme is executed well and the art looks good, but the bosses and difficulty should have been more looked into (for example, the second boss was way easier than the first one, and the final boss was a matter of just staying close and spamming the attack button). Overall a really neat entry, good job everyone :)

Developer

Thanks a lot! Some people have found the game too easy and others too hard. I'm wondering if its because the first 3 bosses are always in a random order and their stats and behaviours dont change.

After a few late development we found that most bosses can be beat by rushing. If I could go back I would have added minions that fire projectiles so that the player would have to attack them first and more AOE attacks for bosses that cant be destroyed by attacking (Like the wolf howl).

Thanks for the feedback!

Great submission, really good job balancing this one -- I felt like it was challenging and had to retry a few times, but not too many (this is one of the few submissions I've been able to complete so far :P). All the communication with the player was solid throughout, I never was confused or felt like a hit didn't connect. I think it could use a bit more game juice though, it could make the combat feel a bit more impactful. Also, the art was great throughout, but the different scaling on assets/pixelation did detract from the overall polish, but these are really just nitpicks. Nice work :)

Developer

Thanks! I'm a bit new to adding juice to games. I´ve gotten some really useful feedback so maybe after the game is over I will put more focus on it.

Even after years of game dev I´m still struggling with scaling lol.

Thank you for the feedback!

The game has a very cool atmosphere, music and visual style. But the attacking feels a little wooden, there is not enough impact from the blows, maybe shaking the camera or more effects would improve the situation. Overall well done

Very cool game, the art looks good and music sounds fantastic! The bosses were very cool and quite easy to beat, but also not too easy (I died few times before each one lol), although there’s a one problem with one boss and its attack…

The owl boss has its attack where it shoots its wings at the player, but I don’t really know where the player hitboxes are… I assume that it’s like a rectangle on the player feet or smth but it isn’t told very good.

Anyway good game, fun to play. Would love to see more bosses! GG!

Developer

Thanks! Due to the perspective I realised that hitboxes were going to be an issue. I tried to make the player hitbox smaller to compensate but it didn´t completely fixed the issue.

Thank you for playing and the feedback!

A wonderful game.

I enjoyed the writing, it's very charming.

I LOVE the art style, and the art of the game. I don't know why you went with pixel art for the UI and the dialog boxes though.

Although I've seen this exact life <-> something exchange mechanic in a lot of entries, the connection to the secondary characters make it feel more impactful and meaningful. I also love how there are a few different "build" options you can go for.

I played it through twice, and I got the bosses we're in a different order the second time, and if that's intentional, then it is very welcome, from my part.

A few gripes though. Some hitboxes are off, and the bosses are generally easy to cheese. But other than that, a very well made game!

Great job! The controls feel a bit difficult, but I like the artistic style. With a bit of polishing, it could be a really good game. Congratulations!

Boss design is quite strong and UI is soooo good! Exchange mechanic is good but many options feels really undertuned and not worth a health exchange. Great project, left a good impression after it!

Love the artstyle of this game.

Loved the art and the overall feel of the game! I do agree with the other comment a bit on the spam left click, but overall super fun.

Really great experience! 5/5

if you can re-save or re-rate ours all of our previous ratings were deleted by mis communication… sorry for inconvenience

Best of luck! If you get the chance to read in time!

This is such a cool experience! The overall atmosphere in the game was really well done! The fights felt unique in design but the solution was always to run up and spam left click. Very fun though good job!

I really love the aesthetic of the game! The art and music go great together, and the gameplay is simple but fun, and the bosses are really well designed and quite distinct from each other, great job!

I really really enjoy the art style and atmosphere. It's a really nice story and world you created here

Solid game. The mechanics were on the lighter side, but that opened up space for the really pretty artstyle and intricate boss attacks to shine. I really like the theming, and the end scene is super sweet. Congrats to the team.

Its very good, the story, visuals, boss and music are awesome. Some VFX feels kind off and perspective make you take some hits, but in general its well polished with a good usage of the theme. The dog is super cute

COOL! I had a bunch of fun. LOVE the art style, I REALLY LIKE IT! One of the best games I played yet!

I beat it with not much upgrades. Like the bosses design and the attention to detail. Great Work!

Whoa.

I teared up playing this. I just beat it. I'm shaking.

Thank you for creating this heartfelt and mechanically excellent piece of art.

I think it's really impressive that you told a complete story in four boss battles and the quiet spaces in between. This is my favorite game of the whole jam by far.

I have no critiques, except that it took me a while (for some reason) to figure out that my dash let me dodge enemy shock waves. Maybe its because I don't play a lot of games.

I had a lot of fun optimizing my build to face the different bosses. I felt waves of satisfaction when I nailed my strategies.

And I won't spoil it for anyone reading, but... Wow. What a message.

I hope you make Top 30 and beyond!
