"Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed."

For the past couple of weeks, everyone's been freezing themselves with a bucket of ice water to raise awareness for ALS. Well, now it's time to shift your creativity into "Deep Freeze" mode for the ALS Game Jam!

The Jam is centered around three themes that were highly prominent in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge:

  • Ice
  • Water
  • Money

So make sure that your #ALSJam masterpiece heavily incorporates all three of these elements!

Your entries will be played and judged by your peers according to their iciness, their wetness, and their wealthiness, all three of which we learned about from an entrepreneurial eskimo.

Not a developer? Not a problem! Donate some money to the ALS Association, do the ice bucket challenge, tweet about the Jam using #ALSJam, or simply just play the jam games and vote on them! Every little bit counts.

In the last two weeks, the Ice Bucket Challenge™ has quite literally “soaked” the nation. Everyone from Ethel Kennedy to Justin Timberlake has poured a bucket of ice water over his or her head and challenged others do the same or make a donation to fight ALS within twenty-four hours.

And now, let's help out the ALS Association in the best way we game developers know—through creativity.

Good luck, and bundle up!
